If you are thinking about hair color, there are several things you should know, and things your cosmetologist should know and consider, First, you should decide what kind of color do you want.
The classifications of color are:
Permanent, This color is going to grow out, and you will have to get touch ups to prevent the roots from showing, Semi-permanent hair color fades out, and it will last from 4 to 6 weeks, depending on how often you shampoo your hair.
temporary hair color will last from shampoo, and this includes your rinses.
Permanent color contains ammonia, if you have a relaxer on you hair, you do want to steer clear of anything containing ammonia.
You will want to go with semi or demi permanent. Demi will last longer, because it requires peroxide. Peroxide can be used with a relaxer, because it is an acid, and will not harm the hair, another consideration, is gray hair, if you ate trying to cover gray,you must talk to your cosmetologist, and be sure to use a product that will give you the desired results.
There are also tints made from vegetable products, that are advertised as being permanent, without ammonia, if you have a chemical on your hair, avoid these products.
Other things to be considered are:
Hair texture, which means, how big is a syrand of your hair?
Density, how much hair do you actually have on your head?
porosity, how fast will this tint be absorbed into your hair?
Your cosmetologist will also consider your natural color, and the existing pigment, and if you are going lighter or darker.
If you are going lighter, they will have to decolorize.
